Nationally Ranked LLCC Takes Two from LC

Game 1: LC 1- LLCC 4
Springfield, IL-  “The girls showed up to play today,” head coach Crystal Wurth said.  “And it’s a good thing because we were playing Lincoln Land the number one ranked team in our conference and nationally ranked for NJCAA D2 softball. The effort was great today, we hustled and our defense was on. LLCC has a deep pitching staff and they throw hard. We made the adjustments just fell flat at the plate.”

Darcie Hawkins (9-7) threw a great game once again. “She is doing everything that we ask of her in the circle. She is making adjustments and getting us ground balls, which is not an easy task going up against top hitters like she does. Every game she is making strides and improving. She works very hard, and is playing well. Darcie gave up 10 hits, walked 1 and struck out 0.”

Lincoln College was quiet at the plate only able to compile 2 hits behind efforts of Jenna Harcharik (single, run) and Lexi Litwiller (single).

Game 2: LC 5- LLCC 6
Maria Rangel (3-4) took the loss for the Lynx during the second game. She allowed 11 hits, walked 0 and struck out 2 batters. LC was able to battle it out at the plate scoring 4 runs in the last 2 innings of play. “We put together some nice hits and were able to battle our way back into the game in the later innings. It was good to see the girls driving the ball like they are capable of and running bases like they should”.

LC strung together 10 hits behind the offensive efforts of Becca Lee (2 singles, RBI), Melissa Lynn Crivokapich (2 singles) and Alexis Fricke-Montgomery (single, double, RBI, run). LC hitters combining one hit each are Jenna Harcharik (single, run), Maria Rangel (single), Kaitlin Snyder(single), and Taylor Gottfriedt (double, RBI, 2 runs).

“We did not leave the field with wins today, but we played really well. That’s all that we can ask for as we keep learning and growing preparing ourselves for post season. Our coaching staff is extremely happy with the girls efforts today. We couldn’t have done anything any different and we are proud of the progress we are making together as a team.”

Overall Record: 16-12
MWAC Record: 7-7
Region 24: 7-7

Next game: 4/11/15 Sat at IVCC in Olgesby, IL at noon & 2pm.
