Lady Lynx Softball Splits with Danville Area Community College

April 7, 2014

Lincoln, IL – The Lady Lynx split Sunday with Danville Area Community College. In game one, Lincoln College was shut out 8-0.  Melissa Crivokapich (0-2) took the loss for the Lynx allowing 10 hits, two walks while striking out two.  Lincoln was led offensively by Sydne Bryant with two hits. Taylor Hewitt, Lexi Ballard and Lexi Litwiller all contributed one hit each.  Coach Crystal Wurth said, “We did not play very well the first game. Our bats were sluggish and we had too many base running mistakes. Melissa pitched yet another great game. She does really well keeping the ball low and getting hard ground balls.  Our defense just was not ready. Luckily the second game we came to life.”

In game two, Lincoln jumped ahead 3-0 in the bottom of the first inning setting the tone early. Erica Jordan (3-6) threw a two-hitter walking two and striking out three. Coach Wurth said, “Erica came to play today. She really worked the corners of the zone and forced the opponents to hit routine ground balls.”  Lincoln College knocked 11 hits and was led by sophomore Taylor Hewitt with two hits including a grand slam in the bottom of the second inning and a double. Sydne Bryant went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBI’s. Lexi Ballard and Kate Snyder also added two hits apiece.  Coach Wurth added, “It was nice to see all aspects of the game together; pitching, defense, offense and base running. We are capable of doing great things on the field but it starts with the first pitch and first out of the first inning.  I was very happy with the efforts the second game. I hope that we carry the momentum over to our Monday DH vs JWCC.”
