Clermont, FL – The Lincoln College softball team are in the midst of their spring trip in Florida and have gone 3-3 with six more games to be played.  In the season opener, the Lady Lynx shut out nationally ranked D1 Owens Community College 3-0 behind a strong pitching performance by Darcie Hawkins (1-0).  Hawkins pitched a complete game seven innings giving up 4 hits, 2 walks, while striking out 4.  Offensively for the Lynx, Rebecca Lee and Mercedez Morgan each collected one hit apiece and each scored a run.  Alex DeVaney scored the other run for the Lady Lynx.  In the nightcap, the Lynx pulled out the 8-7 win in extra innings.  Alex DeVaney (1-0) pitched all 8 innings to earn the victory.  DeVaney gave up 7 runs on 7 hits with no walks and 2 strikeouts.  Erin Rankin, Rebecca Lee, and Rylee Martin each collected 3 hits for Lincoln.  Lee drove in 3 runs and Rankin scored 3 times.  Madalyn Cooper added 2 hits and an RBI for the victorious Lady Lynx.  The score was tied 7-7 after 7 innings and LC plated a run in their half of the 8th to take the win from Owens CC and move to 2-0 on the year.

On Day 2, the Lynx cooled off a bit in the hot Florida sun as Mercyhurst North East defeated the Lady Lynx 6-3.  In game two, Mott Community College defeated Lincoln 7-2.

On Day 3, they Lady Lynx would bounce back winning a 6-5 thriller and holding off a late charge by Owens Community College.  Lincoln took a 6-1 lead into the bottom of the 7th before Owens CC plated 4 runs but fell short as Lincoln’s Darcie Hawkins (2-0) closed the door for the victory.  Hawkins threw 7 complete giving up 5 runs on 7 hits, 2 walks and 3 strikeouts.  Hawkins helped her own cause by going 3-for-3 at the plate with an RBI and a walk.  Madalyn Cooper added 2 hits and 2 RBI’s and Erin Rankin, Mercedez Morgan, and Rebecca Lee each had 2 hits apiece to lead the Lynx attack.  Rankin also scored 2 runs.  In the second game of the day, Kalamazoo Valley CC defeated the Lady Lynx 4-3 as Alex DeVaney (1-2) took the loss on the mound going 5 innings giving up 4 runs on 9 hits, 1 walk, and 2 strikeouts.  Erin Rankin came in relief of Hawkins and threw one inning walking one and striking out two.  Kenzie Cooper collected 2 hits and scored a run while Rylee Martin, Ashlyn Carroll, and DeVaney each had one hit apiece.  The Lynx left 17 runners on base.

The Lynx are now 3-3 and will next play today, March 7 against Glen Oaks CC and Muskegon CC.
